A First!

Stories cover (396x612) (72dpi)Web

It was only a little thing, but it meant a lot to me. At the weekend a customer walked into a local independent bookshop and ordered one of my history books! The bookshop emailed me and I delivered it today, along with samples of my other books for them to consider.

It was great to actually be asked for a book by a bookshop rather than being the one doing the asking.

I think the customer may have been from a talk I gave recently. I give history talks from my books to local groups. I really enjoy it, and actually sell more books after a talk than all my online sales put together.

Another New Grandson!

2018-11-09 18.09.54-1

I posted last week that I wouldn’t be posting regularly during November because I’m doing NaNoWriMo. Well, there has been another interruption, but the best kind of interruption. I have a new grandson! We have been looking after his brothers while his mum went into hospital for the birth. Meet Aksel Thomas Brooks, born Friday 9 November, weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces. Mother and baby are well and home.

National Novel Writing Month again

If I don't post regularly for a few weeks, it's because November is National Novel Writing Month.

Known for short as NaNoWriMo, this began as a challenge between friends to write a novel in a month. The idea spread and was put online as a means of keeping everyone in touch. Now, hundreds of thousands of people all over the world take part every year.

The challenge is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. You are allowed to plan, outline, research, build characters etc., in advance, but you don't write one word of the novel until 1st November. Then it's an average of 1,666 words a day, every day. So I'm going to be really busy.

This year I’m writing the next book in my science fiction series Flight of the Kestrel. It’s called Crisis of Conscience at the moment, but that may change later. Life is really busy at the moment, so I’m not reaching my daily target of words, but just writing every day is something I haven’t done in a while, so it’s still a win. And I end up with more of the novel than I started, which is also good.

So please be patient, and apologies to my history fans. Your turn will come.
