I have been writing about this, my new history book, for a few weeks now, so if you have seen the progress news you can go back and read it. Having successfully loaded to ebook version to Amazon KDP and had the print version printed, the next thing is to launch it. I plan to publicise it online of course, and drop the price of the ebook for the first few days (watch for notification) but because it is a physical book too, I want to have an actual, real world book launch.
The place where I have had all my previous launches said they were sure they could fit me in, but when I gave them an actual week, to coincide with the ebook publication, they were fully booked. My heart sank. What to do?
Swansea Museum every year has a Local History Book Fair, and I have attended a good few of them, with mixed results (the photo above was taken in 2014 when I only had two books out). When they notified me this year I decided not to attend because I had nothing new to sell. Since my book is ready early, I took the chance and emailed the organiser. To my delight he has managed to fit me in. Last year they started having short talks during the Fair, and he has also managed to give me one of the slots in which to launch my book.
The good news is that I will have a ready-made audience of people attending the Fair, plus my friends and fans. The not-so-good news is that I will only have twenty minutes, so I won’t have lots of time to waffle and read bits out, I will have to get straight to the point. But I am really excited. The Fair is on 28 October, 10am to 4pm. I’m on at 11.30am, but I will be there selling all day. Do come down if you’re in the Swansea area.
The print book will be £4.99 but I will sell for £4 at the Fair. The ebook will be $3.99/£2.98 but will be $1.99/£1.49 for the first few days – the publication date is 23 October. You can pre-order from Amazon now and will be charged the lower price on publication day.
So I’m busy preparing promotional materials and activities online. Keep your eyes peeled!
